In the emotional moment, Murray paused his acceptance speech after catching a glimpse of his wife Kim Sears, 35, and his four children — who he didn’t know weren’t attending the game. ‘

The former world number one defeated Frenchman Arthur Cazaux 6-4 6-4 in the final to win ten consecutive times and win the Rothesay Nottingham Open.

At that moment, he heard cheers in the stands, looked up to see his supportive family all gathered, with wife Kim, dressed in black cat eye sunglasses, who smiles back at him and holds the couple’s youngest child.

Genuinely shocked, 36-year-old Murray counted his children, said ‘they’re all here’ and admitted he had ‘no idea’ they were coming to watch.

He said, ‘Oh my god, I didn’t know they were here. I had no idea they were coming.’

He added: ‘They showed up for the final at Surbiton last week, they showed up and it started raining so then they had to go home for the kids’ bedtime.

But they went public a year later when he won his first tournament in California and entered the stands to kiss Kim.

Kim, who was 18 at the time and still studying at school, said she asked her mother to call in sick for her, but pictures of them were splashed all over the newspapers.

The couple tied the knot at Dunblane Cathedral in Scotland on April 11, 2015, wearing a glamorous Swarovski crystal-encrusted gown by Jenny Packham, who also designs outfits for The Princess of Wales.

They held their reception at the Cromlix House Hotel in Dunblane, which Murray bought for nearly £2 million in 2013.

The hotel was closed for a few months for a renovation led by Kim herself and has since reopened.

“I think at the time it needed a revamp anyway and that was the perfect timing.

“I was done building our childhood home, I was done having babies, and I saw it as an opportunity to really put our mark on it, put my mark on it.”

The hotel even has a private chapel where Murray’s brother and father both got married.

She said, “Those were really special memories for us.”

The pair share four children together, Sophia, seven, Edie, five, Teddie, three, and a two-year-old thought to be named Lola.

Their fourth child was born in lockdown in March 2021 and the couple have never revealed the baby’s name or gender.

However, given the evidence of his movement, serve and match play this week, he looks like a good bet to enjoy his best run at Wimbledon since stumbling out of the 2017 quarter-finals with the hip injury that derailed his career.

His physicality was tested here as he won his semi-final at 6.30pm on Saturday evening, but was back again at 11am for the final, which was brought forward due to the threat of rain on Sunday afternoon.
