A great chef has delighted fans with a simple trick to slice through an entire basket of tomatoes in less than five seconds.

New Zealand chef Andy Hearnden said you can easily slice tomatoes by placing them between two lids and then running a sharp knife through.

Andy is Executive Chef at Kilcoy Global Foods in Queensland and is best known for his cooking tips, which have attracted over three million TikTok fans.

Along with the ‘game-changing’ tomato hack, she shared four other cooking secrets to make cooking quick and easy.

Queensland-based chef Andy Hearnden (chef) revealed five cooking secrets, including how to chop an entire basket of tomatoes in less than 5 seconds.

The best chef advised to put the tomatoes between two lids, and then run a sharp knife. Andy demonstrated the trick and was left with perfectly halved tomatoes.

“If you need to cut a lot of cherry tomatoes, place them between two lids or two plates and slice them with a sharp knife,” he said.

He advised his followers to put a plate or lid on the table, put all the tomatoes on top, then press another plate or lid on top and cut the tomatoes while holding the plate or lid down.

Her second piece of advice was to ‘always’ use a baking scale, instead of cups.

‘When measuring, especially for baking, use the scale in grams and kilos. It’s much more accurate and you’ll get much better results,” he said.

She also advised home chefs to always shell eggs on a flat surface, rather than the side of a bowl, to reduce the risk of shells getting into the egg.

His fourth tip was to use a thermapen when cooking meat, these thermapens are around $100 and can be inserted inside food to check the temperature.

Andy (pictured with his girlfriend) is known on social media for sharing tips and tricks for foodies.

‘Take the guesswork out of cooking meat. You use one of these, you know it’s cooked to the temperature you like or it’s not cooked correctly’, Andy advised.

His last piece of advice was to always keep knives as sharp as possible.

“It’s safer, more efficient, and generally makes cooking so much easier,” he said.

The chef suggested using a knife sharpener and whetstone or knife sharpening machine.

His followers appreciated the helpful tips, particularly the cherry tomato hack.
