Lockyer is now recovering at home after suffering a cardiac arrest against Bournemouth last week and has had an ICD device fitted to prevent a recurrence.
But he was firmly on the minds of everyone inside Kenilworth Road, including Townsend who ran to the bench to grab a shirt with Lockyer's name on it and showed it to all parts of the ground, after paying his way to Luton had opened.
Lockyer's shirt, shorts and shin pads were in his usual place in the dressing room as Luton continued to show their support for their absent captain following the harrowing events at the Vitality Stadium.
They warmed up in tops with '4 Locks' on them and in the fourth minute there was a minute of applause as Lockyer's name was sung repeatedly.
Banners from both groups of fans were also displayed at Kenilworth Road.
