  • He was followed to his home and the local cafe

Andrew Johns was forced to call for police help after the football legend was repeatedly followed by a man in his local suburb of Bronte, New South Wales.

NSW blues legend Johns, 49, first met the man while surfing at Bronte Beach on March 29. Police say he was followed into the water and the man reportedly stared at him for a long time.

When Johns returned home, he reportedly saw the same man walking around on the sidewalk outside his property.

The next day, the same 27-year-old man allegedly found Johns at a local cafe. He came over and stared at him again for a long time.

Johns raised the alarm with NSW Police and the man was arrested on March 31. He has been charged with one count of stalking.

“A man has been charged following an investigation by officers from the Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command into the alleged stalking of a 49-year-old man,” a NSW Police spokesperson said.

‘On Sunday 31 March 2024, a 27-year-old man was charged with stalking and refused bail.

‘He appeared before Parramatta Local Court yesterday (1 April 2024) and was granted bail.’

However, when police checked the Bondi address the man had given them as part of his bail conditions, they reportedly discovered the property did not exist.

Police found the man at 9.50am the next morning and arrested him for breaching his bail conditions.

A magistrate at Waverley Local Court remanded the man in custody. He will undergo a psychiatric examination.

Police have also applied for a personal violence order to protect former Newcastle Knights star Johns.

The 27-year-old man must appear in court on Thursday in connection with the AVO.

Johns is a footy pundit for Channel 9 and has had a hugely successful playing career.

He was the eighth player to be named in honor of “Immortal.”

When asked for comment by News Corp, Johns said: “Sorry mate, it’s in court. Cannot comment’.
