Andrew Garfield addresses rumors that he’s returning alongside Tom Holland in Spider-Man 4

Now that Tom Holland has been confirmed to return in a fourth Spider-Man film from Marvel Studios, rumors are surfacing that Andrew Garfield could be joining him.

Garfield, 41, played Peter Parker in 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man and its 2014 sequel, The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

He also joined his predecessor Tobey Maguire and Holland in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, which explained that both Maguire and Garfield’s versions of Peter Parker exist on different planets of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s multiverse.

Now that the connection between the entire Spider-Man franchise has been established, fans are wondering if they will be allowed to return in this upcoming sequel.

During an extensive cover story interview with GQ, Garfield did his best to quell rumors of his return.

However, he’s well aware that most may not believe him… as he lied about returning for No Way Home for years before the film’s release.

‘I’m going to disappoint you. Yes, no. But I know from now on no one will trust anything I say,” he said.

Still, the actor wouldn’t be averse to returning to a major superhero or similar studio franchise in the future.

‘If it felt in line with my soul and would be fun. Maybe at some point I’ll have five kids and I’ll have to start saving for college or something,” Garfield joked.

He also denied the rumor that he would play Jesus in a Martin Scorsese film, adding: “There was a rumor. As far as I know it’s not true.’

‘I also like to work. “You can’t keep waiting for Scorsese to call because he makes a movie every three years and Leo DiCaprio is often in them,” he admitted.

Garfield admitted in October that he was “really scared” of all the attention he received after taking on the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

He decided to combat his fame by making some rather drastic changes to his life, including his appearance.

“I had some kind of allergic reaction to all that Spider-Man stuff. I was like, “I know I’m not ready for this in some way. I know I’m not ready for this level of exploration,” he admitted.

“So I’m going to grow a really horrible beard, and I’m going to wear really damn clothes, and I’m going to chase paparazzi and try to talk to them,” he said.

He even admitted to asking some photographers, “Why are you doing this?” during their meetings.

Garfield returned to the big screen last year after a three-year hiatus with his critically acclaimed film We Live In Time with Florence Pugh.

He also has Luca Guadagnino’s After The Hunt in post-production, starring Julia Roberts and Ayo Edibiri.
