Bolt wistfully recalls how he first fell in love with Morrell, whom he met when they both worked for the predecessor of Melbourne’s Herald Sun newspaper.

“I noticed Sally’s warm brown eyes in our first real conversation in a cafe…and felt sure she was loved and loved,” he writes.

Bolt goes on to observe that “a loving heart, unlike youth, lasts forever.”

“A lot of that happiness comes from lasting so long together,” Bolt writes.

“I love having someone who shares decades of memories. Memories are not much, otherwise. They wither and you lose half your life.

“I give credit to someone who was born 60 years ago this week with a loving heart,” Bolt writes.

‘I am so lucky.’
