‘I really enjoy having my coach with me [between dives] just because he helps get my head out of my head. I like to listen to gospel music just to refocus and just enjoy the competition.”
When asked what her goal is, she said: ‘To enjoy! We’ll see what happens in Paris, but I really just want to enjoy it.’
This was the main event in the qualifying run to Paris for both the 3m and 10m diving competitions.
Spendolini-Sirieix won the event, gaining a predetermined number of points in both the preliminary rounds and the final, meaning a second place is also available.
Jack Laugher took first place in the men’s 3 meters at the Sandwell Aquatics Centre, making himself the leading candidate to be selected for that event in Paris.
The 29-year-old came fourth in the preliminary rounds but won the final with 507.20 points, ahead of Jordan Houlden with 476.20 points and Dan Goodfellow, who scored 471.60.
“The first three are my easier dives and if I do them well I know I’ll be in good stead for the last three,” Laugher said.
