Actress Andrea Fay Friedman has died at the age of 53 from complications of Alzheimer's disease.

Friedman's father Hal Friedman revealed her death to the new york times, According to the publication, his daughter had been unable to speak for the past year due to the condition.

She died last Sunday at her residence in Santa Monica, California.

Friedman, who had Down syndrome, played Amanda Swanson in the TV series Life Goes On from 1992 to 1993.

The actress played characters with developmental disabilities during her acting career. Speaking to The Times, her father said his daughter referred to her Down syndrome as her 'Up syndrome'.
