Andre Onana will join the Cameroon AFCON team after facing Manchester United against Tottenham on January 14, according to reports.

Mail Sport previously reported that the club planned to negotiate with its federation the departure of their number 1 for the tournament, with Premier League clubs required to release players for the tournament on January 1.

Onana was due to remain with Erik ten Hag's side for Monday's FA Cup match against Wigan, but the Red Devils were keen to argue for Onana to stay even longer.

As a result, the goalkeeper will travel to Ivory Coast to join Rigobert Song's team with less than 24 hours until Cameroon's tournament opener against Guinea.

From the AthleticsBoth Cameroon and Man United are said to have reached an amicable agreement regarding the goalkeeper's set departure date.

Andre Onana heads to AFCON on January 14 after playing Tottenham for Man United

While the Red Devils are keen to respect their player's wish to represent his country at the tournament, it is believed the special agreement comes in light of a previous agreement that Onana would not feature for Cameroon at AFCON.

During the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Onana left the Cameroon camp before their exit from the tournament amid an incendiary feud with Song.

But the Samuel Eto'o-led federation FECAFOOT is said to have spent time mending relations and convincing Onana to perform at international level again.

Should Cameroon fail to qualify for the group stage, Onana could well return to Old Trafford without missing game time as the Indomitable Lions play their final pool match against Gambia on January 23.
