  • CHRIS SUTTON: Erik ten Hag was WRONG when he said Man United played well after their Champions League exit… is he losing credibility? It all starts

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana took aim at the atmosphere at Anfield after the goalless draw against Liverpool, insisting he felt 'nothing'.

Erik ten Hag's visitors frustrated their opponents and prevented them from moving to the top of the Premier League after a resolute defensive display.

The messy nature of the confrontation caused many of the 57,000 spectators, the highest attendance at the famous old ground since 1949, to express their frustration.

But even with the addition of the newly renovated Anfield Road stand, an area capable of seating 7,000 supporters, Onana has revealed he was largely unfazed by the noise.

When asked by MUTV if he had noticed the atmosphere, the stopper replied: 'Nothing.

'At Manchester United you will get that, I have to be prepared for everything. I'm used to playing big games with high intensity.

“Like I said, it was fun playing here today. We played a good opponent, but we showed that we have good players. As Manchester United you have to try to win.'

United legend Gary Neville, speaking during Sky Sports' coverage, also took aim at the atmosphere, describing it as the worst he had experienced during the derby.

“The atmosphere was the worst I have ever seen at Anfield during a Liverpool vs Manchester United match,” Neville said. 'I've always been complimentary of the Liverpool fans, but it's the quietest crowd I've seen in this match.

“I think there was maybe a bit of overconfidence before the game, with people wearing Christmas jumpers with 7-0 on them and stuff like that!”

United created the best chance of the match through Rasmus Hojlund, whose effort was smothered by Alisson, and Onana believes the performance showed character.

“We are one of the biggest clubs in the world, so we want to beat all opponents,” he added. “Today we showed character, we fought for each other, but that's not all, it's not enough. We have to win, regardless of the opponent.

'It's good to get a clean sheet, but the most important thing is to win the match.

'When you are part of this big club, you have to win. I am happy to do everything I can to protect my players. I want them to be free, focused.

'I'm used to criticism. I don't care.'
