Andre Onana is urged to LEAVE Man United by former Old Trafford flop – with under-fire goalkeeper told it’s ‘pointless’ to stay at the club because he’s ‘not cut out for the English game’

Andre Onana has been told to leave Manchester United this summer by a former Old Trafford flop.

The goalkeeper has had a mixed time at the club since joining for £47million from Inter last summer, replacing long-standing number 1 David De Gea in a killer call from former manager Erik ten Hag.

Ten Hag was sacked in October and replaced by Ruben Amorim, and the Daily Star claims Onana is unhappy with life in Manchester. The same outlet has also reported that the 28-year-old was already restless before Ten Hag’s dismissal, but the situation has worsened since Amorim arrived.

Despite winning the FA Cup last season, Onana has been blamed for a number of goals during his time in Manchester, most recently against Wolves when Matheus Cunha scored directly from a corner in the 2-0 defeat last time out.

Reports have emerged that United could enter the transfer market and replace the 28-year-old, with Bart Verbruggen said to be a target after a string of impressive performances for Brighton.

Former United goalkeeper Massimo Taibi, meanwhile, knows what it’s like to struggle at the club and has suggested Onana cut his losses as soon as possible.

‘I would be honest and say to him: “Andre, you are one of the best goalkeepers in Europe, but in the Premier League you are underperforming. Block criticism, do some research, hit the reset button.” and move on. And if things don’t change in June, move on,” he told the paper Sun.

‘I think subconsciously the United environment is not ideal for him and if a marriage has cracks there is no point in continuing. Sometimes things don’t work in a team and it’s best to go our separate ways, which wouldn’t be a failure.

‘For me he is a strong goalkeeper who is in a situation where he cannot show his skills because he is not suited to the English game. He is only suitable for the Prem when it comes to his ballplay and structure.’

There were high expectations for Taibi when he joined United from Venice in 1999, but he played just four games before leaving a year later and returning to Italy with Reggina.

He spent the rest of his career in his homeland and retired in 2009, leaving Premier League fans wondering what could have been of his time in Manchester.

His stay is ultimately known for conceding one of the softest goals in Premier League history, when Matt Le Tissier’s effort slipped through his hands and rolled into the goal.

Onana, meanwhile, has been part of United’s defense which has conceded nine goals in the last three games, including a 4-3 defeat to Tottenham and a 3-0 defeat at home to Bournemouth.

He has been criticized for a number of mistakes during his Manchester career, although he has generally been praised for his distribution, despite that also causing problems for United at times. Amorim, meanwhile, remains with his number 1.
