West Ham extended their lead in their Europa Conference League group as Gianluca Scamacca’s goal was enough to give them the win over Anderlecht at Lotto Park.

Both sides pushed for the win, but clear opportunities were far and few between them, as neither Alphonse Areola nor Hendrik Van Crombrugge were seriously tested. In the 39th minute, however, Said Benrahma forfeited the best chance of the first half after passing from close range following some great work from Jarrod Bowen.

The loaned Wolves striker Fabio Silva was Anderlecht’s biggest threat for the future, but struggled to find the target with his shots. But it was Hammer’s substitutes who broke through when Scamacca fired a low shot past Van Crombrugge in the 79th minute.

Anderlecht came close to equalizing shortly afterwards, but Silva was refused by Areola, as the French keeper made a stunning save to keep Hammers ahead.
