As a non-driver and bus user all my life I can understand why the government has increased the limit on bus fares to £3. Anyone who has used buses for a long time knows that in most areas this is still cheaper than it has been for years . I suspect most of the people asking about the increase (Editorial, November 20) were not bus users or had bus passes.

As for the Covid letters (Covid is no joke when it continues to hurt so many, November 15), it’s okay to joke about dark things. Laughter is a defense mechanism. My fellow medical students and I relied on dark humor to get us through the terrible things we saw as young people in the 1970s. Humor is a coping strategy and we have all become skilled, caring physicians.

Calling tourists in Cornwall ’emmets’ or ‘grockles’ (Letters, November 19) – both are offensive. They are holidaymakers who hope to enjoy our beautiful province. I’d like to think that when I leave Cornwall to visit other places I will be welcomed and not called a name.

I inquired about a basic health check in my mid-seventies and was told that unless I was on medication, these were not available (Letters, November 19). Rather counterproductive.
