An electric blanket can save you £150 on your gas bill in winter – without increasing electricity costs

Using an electric blanket can save you an average of £150 on your gas bill in winter – without increasing your electricity costs, new research shows.

Blankets saved customers 20 percent on their gas bills and only increased electricity bills by 0.2 percent, Octopus Energy reports.

This meant that customers could reduce their energy bills by an average of £148 over three winter months.

The provider distributed 34,000 free electric blankets to vulnerable customers between last December and March of this year.

Electric blankets typically cost around £60, some for as little as £30, and can warm a person for as little as 3p to 4p an hour.

They are designed to be attached to your mattress, under your sheet, to warm your bed.

Rebecca Dibb-Simkin, of Octopus Energy, says: ‘An electric blanket means you’re heating the person, not the house – it stays warm for just 3 cents an hour.’
