An antiques expert leaves an attendee speechless as he reveals a £25 painting is worth a fortune

Known for its shocking moments, antiques expert Grant Ford left the contestant speechless after discovering her painting was worth more than she ever imagined.

On the show’s recent trip to Powys Castle and Garden in Wales have discovered an incredibly valuable painting, despite the fact that it was bought for just £25.

Bought in a charity shop, the guest could not believe that she owned such a valuable painting.

The colorful painting depicted an interesting Scottish scene and delighted the expert who revealed that the artwork was worth between £4,000 and £6,000.

The assessment stunned the guest when she exclaimed, “Oh, wow! That’s pretty amazing. For £25, I’m glad I bought it.’

The guest came across the picture completely by accident while returning from a holiday in the Scottish Highlands with her children.

She and her family were driving back to their home in Shropshire and stopped for a short walk to break up the journey.

It started to rain heavily, and she ran with the children to the nearest charity shop in search of shelter.

There she found the picture, as she told Grant: ‘I didn’t get a raincoat, I got a picture.’

Jokingly, Grant replied: ‘Gee, I wish I’d been there before you.’

After analyzing the work, the expert concluded that oil on canvas was the style of the ‘confident colourist’.

Signed ‘Cunningham’ in the lower right corner, the artist has been revealed to be John Cunningham.

He was a Glasgow based artist born in 1926 who was born and raised in Lanarkshire but then went on to study at the Glasgow School of Art.

Grant explained: ‘He taught a lot, and then when he retired from the Glasgow School of Art as a teacher and senior lecturer, he became a sort of professional artist in 1985.’

A guest had paid £25 for the painting ten years ago, but Grant could confidently say it was now worth £4,000 to £6,000.

“I think it’s incredibly lucky because this is a very sought-after painting.” And actually, it has great value,” he said.

“You could have found a raincoat that day; luckily you found a brilliant picture.’
