Wear Orange was founded after the death of Hadiya Pendleton, a 15-year-old girl who was shot to death in a Chicago playground in 2013 – just a week after she took part in President Obama’s inaugural parade.
Shortly after this tragedy, Hadiya’s friends commemorated her life by wearing orange, the color hunters in the forest wear to protect themselves and others. Wear Orange is now observed in June every year Wear Orange website.
‘Wear Orange started on June 2, 2015, which would have been Hadiya’s 18th birthday. Since then, Wear Orange has expanded to three days a year: National Gun Violence Awareness Day (the first Friday in June) and Wear Orange Weekend (the corresponding weekend).’
Schumer, 42, wore an orange shirt to honor three victims of gun violence, including two who died at a screening of her 2015 film Trainwreck.
