  • Amon-Ra St. Brown has surpassed the Rams’ Cooper Kupp and the Dolphins’ Tyreek Hill as the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL after agreeing to a four-year, $120 million contract extension with the Detroit Lions .

    The 24-year-old St. Brown, who was the third-best wideout in the 2023 NFL season, would have become a free agent at the end of the 2024 season had he not signed the extension Wednesday. The extension includes $77 million guaranteed, as St. Brown will now have to wait until 2029 to become a free agent.

    His new contract puts him on par in salary with Hill and Kupp – two Super Bowl champions and top receivers. According to Ian Rapoport, of the NFL NetworkSt. Brown’s annual salary of $30 million ties him with Hill for the highest among receivers.

    The guaranteed money replaces the $75 million the Rams offered to Kupp.

    “At Ford Field it’s empty, but it’s usually rocking. I can not wait. I’ll be here for four more years. It’s finished. It’s turn. Detroit… what about it,” St. Brown said as he celebrated the terms of his new deal in a post shared to his Instagram Story on Wednesday.

    Detroit drafted St. Brown out of USC in the 2021 fourth round with the No. 112 overall pick and he was entering the final season of his rookie contract.

    He was an All-Pro and Pro Bowler last season, helping the Lions win a division title for the first time in three decades and win two playoff games in the same season for the first time since winning the 1957 NFL title.

    According to reports, the Lions also announced new terms Wednesday with offensive tackle Penei Sewell on a four-year deal worth $112 million.

    Detroit general manager Brad Holmes took Sewell in his first draft pick with the franchise, making him the No. 7 overall pick out of Oregon in 2021.

    Sewell was named to the All-Pro team last season and has been durable throughout his three-year career. He started 50 regular season games and all three postseason games as the Lions reached the NFC championship game for the first time since the 1991 season.

    Detroit will host the NFL draft starting Thursday evening and is picked at No. 29 in the first round.
