Amir Khan has thanked the police for returning his stolen watch and has revealed that he will be auctioning it off for charity.

Khan, who retired from boxing last year, was robbed of his £72,000 watch in East London.

His rose gold Franck Muller Vanguard Chronograph was stolen by a gang after Khan dined with wife Faryal and boyfriend Omar Khalid at the Sahara Grill in Leyton, East London, on April 18, 2022.

Khan says the money raised from the auction will go to his foundation.

In a video posted on Twitter, Khan said: ‘Hi guys, I’ve got my watch back now and I’d like to say thank you to the Met Police and I just want to say I’m going to give it to charity now.

“Whatever I get for this watch now, I’m going to auction it off, I’m going to give it to the Amir Khan Foundation, all the money will go to charity and to help people around the world.”

Khan wrote on Twitter: ‘A big thank you to the @METPoliceUKRP & flying squad for getting my watch back and finding the robbers. I would like to auction my watch and raise money for the less fortunate and also make a donation to gun and knife crime in the UK. Thanks to the British media for raising awareness’.

‘Gunman’ Dante Campbell, 21, ran up to Mr Khan outside the restaurant and yelled at him to ‘take off the guard’, Snaresbrook Crown Court heard.

Campbell and Ahmed Bana, 25, have admitted conspiracy to commit robbery and possession of an imitation firearm. Nurul Amin and Ismail Mohamed, both 25, deny conspiracy to commit robbery.

Amin and Mohamed are said to be ‘spotters’ who sat at a table a few feet away from Mr Khan in the restaurant.

In his closing speech, District Attorney Philip Evans said the incident was “Sunday” and the crime was “committed out of nothing but greed.”

To the jury, Mr. Evans: ‘We know there has been a robbery. We know that. Campbell and Bana have pleaded guilty. You see it, as clear as day, in the streets of London. A man points a gun at another man’s head.

“This was committed against a man who is famous. It was committed against a man who has wealth, and had part of his wealth, and had part of that wealth in his hand.”

“This was a crime committed for nothing but greed. To take from someone, something that is earned.’
