Silver Spring, Maryland, the suburban hometown of comedian Dave Chappelle, has been found to be the most dangerous city in the world in a new study by Fortunately.
The Washington, D.C., suburb, where the median home value is more than $500,000, topped the list, followed by Upper Marion in Pennsylvania and Chantilly in Virginia.
The rankings analyzed more than 2,000 cities across the country and considered nearly 200 data categories to determine the most family-friendly locations in each state.
Chappelle, who has recently made waves with his provocative comedy, joked about his upbringing in Silver Spring, claiming he grew up “in poverty among white people” and that he longed to live in poverty in the projects.
“My parents were doing just well enough that I could grow up poor among white people. When Nas and her would talk about the projects, I would get jealous. It sounded fun,” the comedian who reportedly $70 million said.

Chappelle reportedly grew up in a Cape Cod-style home in the North Woodside neighborhood of Silver Spring, which his parents purchased in 1973. It sold for $178,000 on May 13, 1988, and was appraised at $741,423.
“Everybody in the projects was poor, and rightfully so. But if you was poor in Silver Spring, n***a, it felt like it was only happening to you,” noted the comedian, who has seen a steady decline in popularity in recent years.

While Chappelle jokes about feeling “poor” in the neighborhood where he grew up, his upbringing in Silver Spring was far from ordinary.
The future comedian attended Woodlin Elementary School and grew up with activist parents who regularly invited famous figures to their home.
Among these guests were folk singer and social activist Pete Seeger and American jazz singer Johnny Hartman. At the age of two he also met Muhammad Ali.

Pazit Aviv, 51, a Silver Spring resident who has lived in the city with her two children for 10 years, said the close-knit community has helped the city rise to the top spot.
“I know everyone within a three-block radius,” she told Fortune Well. “We eat together and we eat together when a family has a baby or someone is sick.”
Another recent list of Stacker Kildeer, a small town about 40 minutes outside of Chicago, is the best place to raise a family in 2024, followed by Devon, Pennsylvania, another small town with just 1,890 residents, and Kensington, a small suburb of New York City.

Chappelle was born in Washington, D.C., but spent his summers with his father in Yellow Springs, Ohio, a town of 3,700.
In the early 2000s, Chappelle returned to the Buckeye State and purchased a 3,000-square-foot, three-bedroom home on a 15-acre lot in 2005 for $309,000.
Last May, Chappelle was compared to Donald Trump by at least one Ohioan for his ability to divide people, amid an ongoing feud over the millionaire’s real estate buying spree.
Several residents told Bloomberg they are unhappy with their famous neighbor, saying Chappelle is “a force that is turning us into the place we all want to stay away from.”
