  • Indiana University of Pennsylvania – a university with fewer than 10,000 students in a leafy region outside Pittsburgh – came first out of 400 institutions
  • Second place went to Texas Christian University, while third place went to Birmingham-Southern College, another institution with religious roots
  • The results are part of a broader study that found Princeton to be the highest-ranked university in America

America’s best party schools have been revealed – and several rural and Christian colleges top the list.

Indiana University of Pennsylvania – a university with fewer than 10,000 students in a leafy region outside Pittsburgh – came in first in a ranking of 400 institutions.

Surprisingly in second place was Texas Christian University, located in Fort Worth and with approximately 13,000 students.

TCU’s score was helped by the recent success of its football team, which reached the College Football Playoff National Championship in January, and the high morale of its students.

Third place in the party rankings went to Birmingham-Southern College, another institution with religious roots. The private liberal arts college, founded in 1856, has just 1,300 students.

The rankings were revealed in the Wall Street Journal’s 2024 Guide at the best colleges in the US. Princeton came out on top overall, followed by MIT in second place and Yale in third.

More than 60,000 students from across the country were surveyed between January and May to compile the rankings.

The party rankings were compiled by asking students to rate their university’s party scene on a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 indicating the highest level of satisfaction.

Indiana University of Pennsylvania scored 1.7. The lowest-ranked university, Alaska Anchorage, received a paltry 4.2.

Michelle Fryling, executive director of media relations for IUP, said, “IUP students are active and successful both in and out of the classroom and make lifelong friends.

“Our alumni base of more than 145,000 continues to tell us that IUP was one of the best experiences of their lives, both academically and socially.”

The top five was completed by James Madison University, in Harrisonburg, Virginia, and Tarleton State University, in Stephenville, Texas.

Other lowest-ranked schools included Seattle Pacific University, the University of St. Thomas in Texas, Muskingum University in Ohio and the University of San Francisco.
