Americans think Democrats are more extreme than Republicans and are losing confidence in Biden’s party to govern and keep the country safe, shocking polls show
President Biden is facing public concerns about his party’s overall ability to govern amid his own public approval problems, according to a new survey.
With the government on the brink of a shutdown and Republicans in the House of Representatives struggling to pass even a temporary funding measure, a new Morning consultation Polls show voters believe the Republican Party is better able to govern, by a narrow margin of 47 to 44.
While this is just outside the poll’s margin of error, that is a shift from three years ago, when Democrats led the Republican Party on the issue 48 to 42.
That comes despite Biden this year urging Republicans in the House of Representatives to get their act together as Speaker Kevin McCarthy struggled to muster the votes to lead his party amid bargaining with members of the conservative Freedom Caucus.
His own administration has been ravaged by inflation, an influx of migrants at the southern border and a wave of mass shootings.

Biden’s own public approval ratings have hovered around 40 percent for months, after a dip during the chaotic withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan.
On another key issue of which party will keep the country safe, Republicans also have an edge, leading Democrats 47 to 41 percent — also a reversal from three years ago, when Democrats were 44 to 42 percent led.
That comes in the middle of a increase in homicides and violent crimes in recent years. On international security issues, Biden is pushing for billions in additional aid to Ukraine in its war against the Russian invasion. It faces resistance among Republicans in the House of Representatives, and poll this summer it emerged that a majority of Americans were against additional aid.
Republicans also had a 45-to-39 lead on which party could “address the big problems,” while Democrats had a narrow lead on which party is “responsible,” 42 to 41, within the 2 percent margin of error.
The figures are compared with polls in August 2020 during the fierce campaign between Biden and then-President Trump.
The party poll comes as President Biden’s low approval ratings have persisted for months and months
Biden has sought to put more pressure on “ultra MAGA” Republicans, and is preparing for a possible attack against former President Donald Trump, seen here with Rep. Majorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga.
According to Morning Consult’s analysis, Democrats face a basic problem, with the declines being “largely due to unrest among their own voters.”
One issue that could potentially unite that base is Trump, who has tried to tie Biden to Republicans in the House of Representatives whom he calls “ultra MAGA.”
The positions taken by the parties, beyond Biden himself, come as Senate Democrats face an uphill battle to maintain their majority. The White House, meanwhile, is preparing for an uphill battle with Republicans in the House of Representatives during their impeachment inquiry against Biden.
It comes during a convention in which figures on the right and left of each party, including Trump loyalist Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) and Rep. Alexandria Cortez (D-N.Y.), are grabbing headlines.
