US star Jessica Pegula crashes out of Wimbledon in quarterfinals as she throws out final set after rain delay
Jessica Pegula has been knocked out of Wimbledon after losing an epic quarterfinal on Court 1 Tuesday.
The American No. 4 appeared to be on her way to her first-ever Grand Slam semifinal on grass, until rain stopped play.
But Pegula lost 4-6, 6-2, 4-6 to unseeded Marketa Vondrousova after throwing away a 3-1 lead in the final set.
Play was briefly interrupted when it started to rain in London and Pegula lost all momentum when it resumed.
She did race through her first service game, but then struggled dramatically as Vondrousova showed her form from the first set.
