American slammed after showing off ‘Australian steak trick’ using Vegemite and bizarre sides: ‘We don’t eat this’

An American home chef has sparked outrage after sharing an ‘Australian steak trick’ she learned Down Under.

Jane Brains recently prepared a sirloin steak with egg, Vegemite and hot truffle sauce – simultaneously preparing a side dish with Cheezels, oat milk and melted white cheddar.

The chef regularly tries out bizarre satire recipes online, to the annoyance of millions of people. Australians in particular are outraged by her strange choice of ingredients, claiming the act could ‘deport her’.

“That’s worth a prison sentence in Australia,” said one, while another added: “I’m literally crying right now.”

In her video, Jane started preparing for dinner by removing the center of a sirloin steak and placing an egg in the center.

After the steak started cooking in the hot pan, she squeezed half a bottle of Vegemite onto the top and sides.

“We’re going to drizzle some of this Vegemite sauce on top to make a nice, thick marinade for our steak,” she said. ‘Make sure it’s completely covered; I like to do the front and sides.”

Jane joked that the yeast spread “looked like Nutella” – and that she didn’t mind using the hazelnut chocolate spread on steak either.

“Then we’re going to take a bag of Cheezels – the only orange cheddar you can find in this country – and use that as a side dish.”

She emptied a pack of Cheezels into the hot pan, claiming it was convenient because it would be ready at the same time as the steak.

“The Cheezels are a little dry, so we’re going to add some oat milk to help it cook a little,” she said.

‘We’re going to add some white cheddar on top – this will melt and give it that nice, creamy texture we’re looking for. Think of it as Cheezel mashed potatoes, but much tastier.”

Jane then added generous amounts of salt, pepper and hot truffle sauce to the dish.

“The hot sauce goes well with the inside of the steak because we cook it medium-rare,” she said. “Next you want to grind up the Cheezels.

‘Your kids will love this, what a fun meal!’ she added.

Jane finished by flipping the steak and adding more Vegemite to the other side to make it ‘nice and juicy’.

Placing it on the plate, she cracked the egg, revealing it to be half-poached.

Jane cut herself a piece of steak and dipped it in the egg yolk and Cheezel mashed potatoes before taking a bite.

Aussies who believed Jane was serious threw away her prescription.

“No Australian would ruin a steak with Vegemite,” said one.

“‘These Cheezels are turning into the perfect mashed potatoes’ is a sentence I never imagined would be said out loud,” wrote another.

A third said: ‘Someone call immigration, we have a crazy jerk who needs cooking lessons and the next flight home.’

But a few others joined in on the joke.

“As an Australian, this is 100 percent real and our best dish. All Americans should try this,” one man wrote.
