American podcaster outrages entire country after mocking Aussie slang
An American podcaster has sparked outrage among Australians after saying she has a problem with people using the word “brekkie”.
Jennifer Welch, co-host of the I’ve Had It with Ange Sullivan podcast, admitted she had managed to rip off an entire country after outlining her distaste for the Aussie slang term.
‘I’m tired of people calling breakfast ‘brekkie’. Stop it, she said.
‘Stop putting ‘brekkie in bed’, ‘go to brekkie with my boo’ on Instagram,’
‘Put a sock in it. Stop making up cute words for your performative Instagram posts.
“For God’s sake, stop calling breakfast ‘brekkie’.”
Fans of the show were quick to point out that it is a uniquely Australian word.
“If you’re Australian, that’s the name. It’s Brekkie,” someone wrote.
Another fan said: ‘I think you need to delve deep into Australian slang.’
“Australia is in shock right now,” a third joked.
Ms Welch apologized on TikTok on Saturday, saying: “We accidentally made war on Australia.”
The co-host told Ms. Sullivan how she “really got into it.”
‘So I had enough of the word ‘brekkie’. Well, in Australia what they exclusively call ‘breakfast’ is ‘brekkie,'” Welch said.
“I want the country of Australia to know that I am specifically talking about American – United States of America, Americans – influencers on Instagram, who couldn’t find Australia on the map with both hands and a flashlight.
‘These are the people I’ve had it with. I haven’t had it with Australia, or Australians.
“And now we have to go on the Aussie Redemption Tour.”

Podcast listeners were once again quick to comment, this time offering their forgiveness.
‘Thanks for the clarity! Us Aussies were so triggered,” one person wrote.
“Aussie here. You are forgiven,” said another.
Confusingly, there were many comments from Australians saying they don’t use the word ‘brekkie’.
“We don’t call it exclusively brekky,” one person wrote.
“Australian here.. I will never say brekky because I’m an adult,” said another.
‘I’ve never mentioned breakfast brekkie before. Literally born in Australia. Maybe it’s a Sydney vs. Melbourne thing,” a third fan wrote.
