American nurse claims she was repeatedly raped after being lured to India to marry a lawyer she met on Facebook only to discover the ceremony was fake and he is already married with a child
An American woman claims she was repeatedly raped after being lured to India to marry a lawyer she met on Facebook.
The 45-year-old Florida nurse quit her job, sold her home and traveled to India on July 3 to marry the man after he befriended her on social media and invited her to his home country, the Times of India And Bhaskar report.
She told local police that after landing at Delhi airport, he took her to a hotel in Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan state, where she says he raped her. The woman alleges that he raped her several more times between July 3 and 21.
During this period, they reportedly stayed in hotels in Jaipur and the city of Ajmer, before the man promised her that they would get married and arranged a wedding ceremony on July 15 at a temple in Nasirabad. However, soon after, he realised that it was all a ruse.
She reportedly discovered that the woman he had introduced her to as his cousin at their fake wedding was actually his pregnant wife, with whom he already had a 10-year-old child. The alleged con artist took her to his home.

The American filed a complaint with local police through an NGO on July 25, saying she discovered the fraudster had deceived and raped her.
The man was arrested by Indian police on July 31 for rape and cheating on the pretext of marriage. He was discharged from hospital, where he was treated for gunshot wounds to his leg and chest, which he said he sustained while cleaning his friend’s gun.
Bundhi police chief Hanuman Prasad Meena told the Indian Express about the case: ‘The suspect took her to the hotel, where they stayed for some time.
‘Later he took the woman to Ajmer, where she stayed for some time.
According to the woman, the suspect never told her that he was married.
‘On July 15, he took the woman to a temple and married her. She asked the man to take her to his house.
The man initially refused, but then introduced her to his family in Ajmer.
It came to light that [he] was already married and had a 10 year old child.
‘His wife is currently pregnant with another child. Then they both had a fight and the wife went back to Jaipur.’
The investigating judge added that the man had used his friend’s card to check into the hotels where he stayed with the woman.
