American infuriates Britons as she attempts to make a ‘proper’ cup of tea for a Bridgerton party – with some saying they need ‘therapy’

An American influencer has left Brits furious after trying to make a ‘real’ cup of tea – with some saying they needed ‘therapy’ after watching her butcher the brew.

Kelsey Pomeroy, who lives in Kansas, shared a video of herself trying to make “the perfect cup of British tea” on her Instagram @kelsewhatelse to celebrate the new season of Netflix’s Bridgerton.

However, Kelsey raised a few eyebrows when she started mixing the cold water and milk in a saucepan before cooking it into a frothy mixture.

Many rushed to the comments in horror, with one Briton saying: ‘My eye twitches with English rage.’

Speaking to her 178,000 followers, Kelsey said: ‘I’m an American learning how to make a good cup of British tea because I’m having a high tea party in honor of the premiere of Bridgerton.

‘The internet told me to buy these teas, the PG Tips and the Yorkshire Gold. Someone said that the perfect way to prepare this tea is to first boil the milk with the water and then pour it over the tea and then add the sugar. But no, I do it in a pan.’

The mother confused her British followers when she went to the stove and boiled a mixture of water and milk until it foamed.

She looked confused and asked, “How hot should I cook?” [Is it] a low and slow situation, or do I cook it hot and high? Don’t know.’

The content creator then proceeded to place a tea bag in a mug and pour the milky mixture over it.

She added a spoonful of sugar and thinking about the brewing time she asked, ‘One or two tea bags? I’ll go with one [this box] says one to two minutes of brewing, but I have a feeling the internet says at least three to four minutes.

‘Do I do one to two minutes or three to four minutes? … I let the tea bag steep for three minutes.”

Asking for advice, she asked: ‘If you know how to make a good cup of British tea, what should I change and try differently? Should I have boiled it in the kettle? ‘

British social media users rushed to the comments to leave their thoughts on the butchered brew.
