A 71-year-old American man has been arrested after the body of his Filipino girlfriend was found in a water barrel near their home near the Philippine capital of Manila.
Police in the city of Bacoor said they had arrested William Thomas Worth on Tuesday after discovering the body of 48-year-old Mila Loslos in the blue plastic container.
Mila’s body was sealed in a garbage bag and duct tape in the drum, which was stored in a closet in the house.
Officers said they visited the house hours after Mila’s 21-year-old son, Nino Jay Loslos, reported that his mother had been missing for four days.
Loslos told authorities he visited his mother’s house after worrying about her well-being and finding Worth there.

The American expat reportedly claimed he didn’t know where Mila was, but Loslos became suspicious after he smelled a “foul smell” in the house and told police.
Officers discovered Mila’s body in the blue plastic drum and arrested Worth on suspicion of murder.
Police also found three knives and a length of nylon rope.
“The body was already swollen, it was in the drum and it was covered with packing tape,” Bacoor City Police Chief Ruther Saquilayan told police. Bulletin of Manila.

“We are aware of this matter. Due to U.S. privacy law considerations, we are unable to provide further information,” a spokesman for the U.S. Embassy in Manila said.
Police said an autopsy will be performed to determine the woman’s cause of death.
