The American comedian who was kidnapped and murdered in Colombia knew the woman who lured him to his death, his brother confirmed to DailyMail.com.

Tou Ger Xiong, 50, had been in Medellín, Colombia, since November 29 and went out with the woman on Sunday evening. He was then beaten repeatedly, stabbed more than ten times and dumped in a ravine.

The Hmong activist's body was recovered Monday in Robledo's Medellín neighborhood.

A person was arrested on Wednesday near where the body was found.

Xiong, a resident of Woodbury, Minnesota, met the person in question during one of his previous trips to the Colombian city, which he fell in love with for its culture.

“He came home and showed me the photo,” Eh Xiong told DailyMail.com during a photo interview on Thursday.

Tou Ger Xiong stayed focused on his daily trading gig as he stayed at his friend's house and in the evenings they visited restaurants and bars in the city's entertainment district.

'Unfortunately he was framed. We believe that,” Eh Xiong said. 'We let the police do the work. But the individuals he met he knew from the previous meeting on his previous trip.'

Tou Ger Xiong contacted his brother and friend in the United States to tell him that he had been kidnapped and that his captors demanded $2,000 in exchange for his release.

He told another friend that the kidnappers were holding him “at gunpoint,” according to KSTP.

A woman contacted Medellín police and reported the kidnapping.

Authorities went to inspect the home where Tou Ger Xiong was staying and noticed the strange behavior of a woman as she took out items. She escaped when she noticed that the police were about to approach her.

Eh Xiong said his brother's affinity for meeting new people may have led to his death.

'He was very reliable and really saw the best in everyone. I think that was his downfall,” Eh Xiong said. “Maybe he trusted and saw the very best in people and never worried about his safety because of the type of person he (was).”

The family has been in contact with the offices of Minnesota Senators Tina Smith and Amy Kobluchar as they awaited the completion of paperwork to repatriate his body to the United States.

St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter paid tribute to You Ger Xiong in a series of posts on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, on Wednesday, saying he was “too full of life to be ripped away so suddenly.”

“He was one of the funniest and most genuine people I've ever met.” Carter said. “A community leader, accomplished storyteller and comedian, the first Hmong rapper and an absolute karaoke master in every genre of music. His light brought everyone around him to life. … If you've ever seen a man dancing at one of my campaign events, wearing a James Brown (or Elvis) costume and laughing all the time, you've met Tou Ger.”

Eh Xiong said the family is planning a trip to Medellín as part of a religious ritual that will include freeing the spirit of Tou Ger Xiong.

Tou Ger Xiong was born in Laos in 1973 and the family fled to Thailand after the communist takeover in 1975 because his father had served as a captain in the US-backed Hmong army. according to a 2020 profile of him in the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

They spent four years in a refugee camp in Thailand before settling in St. Paul, home to the largest Hmong community of any city in the US.
