American bull rider injured after attack by beast named Mickey Mouse that pinned his rescuer

This isn’t the Disney-esque ending an American professional bull rider was hoping for at an event in Brazil.

Elijah Monnett was attacked by a bull named ‘Mickey Mouse’ on Thursday during the 31st Barretos International Rodeo in Barretos, São Paulo.

The 25-year-old Utah native spent just four seconds on the box as the crowd at Rodeo Stadium Arena cheered him on before he was thrown off.

Monnett stood up as a cowboy rescuer walked over to check on him. He had his back to “Mickey Mouse,” who nearly gored him and lifted him off the ground, pinning both men against the fence.

Later in the event, Arizona resident Jaxton Mortensen was nearly crushed to death by a bull nicknamed “Metamorphosis” when the large animal slipped and fell just seconds after exiting the slide.

The 20-year-old landed on his right side and began to crawl as a barrel man rushed over and dragged him to the gate, where the man tried to help him stand.

Mortensen was taken to the emergency room for a medical examination, Brazilian news outlet G1 reported.

Monnett and Mortensen did not respond to a request for comment from DailyMail.com.

The 31st Barretos International Rodeo started on Thursday and runs through Sunday.

The event will feature 35 bull riders, including three from the United States.

Álvaro Aguilar of Jalisco, Mexico, scored 90 points in the first round while riding Gatilho.

The winner of the four-day event will win 200,000 reals, approximately $36,500, and advance to The American Rodeo in Arlington, Texas in April 2025.

The event, which is also called the ‘crown jewel of rodeo’, offers a prize pool of $1 million.
