American Airlines plane catches fire at San Francisco Airport

Frightened passengers escaped from an American Airlines plane at San Francisco International Airport on Friday after a fire broke out on board.

The interior of the Airbus jet burst into flames around 12:15 p.m. PT on Friday. The emergency slides were deployed and passengers quickly evacuated the plane, which was parked at a gate at the time.

There have been no reports of injuries and the cause of the fire is unclear. NBC Bay Area reported.

Several fire brigades arrived on the scene and the fire has now been extinguished.

Passengers were gathered on the runway after leaving the plane, and bags full of belongings were also scattered around the area.
