American Airlines has grounded all its flights due to a massive system failure.
Holiday travel plans in the US have been thrown into chaos amid the ongoing ‘technical glitch’.
The airline did not specify what the problem is or how long it is expected to last.
But it comes just a day before Christmas, during one of the busiest travel periods of the holiday season, sparking fears of massive delays.

American Airlines is forced to request a ground stop for all its flights due to the ongoing system disruption.
“A technical issue is impacting US flights this morning,” the airline said in a statement.
“Our teams are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible and we apologize to our customers for the inconvenience.”
More than 150 flights delayed or canceled
The early morning ground stop has already led to approximately 160 canceled or delayed flights, according to FlightAware.
Between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m. there were 156 delays and four canceled flights.
The most delays were reported at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York.
