The upcoming AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D gaming CPU has been spotted on several retailer sites ahead of its confirmed release on November 7 – it doesn’t look positive for gamers price-wise.
Wccftech spotted one of the listings on a French retailer, PC21, showing that the processor’s retail price in France will reportedly be €556.27 (€463.56 without tax) – just over $600 / £460 / AU$910. Also a Lithuanian retailer, Inida listed the chip at €557.31and this entry is still active at the time of writing (although it has no image, meaning it’s almost certainly a mistake).
This is quite close to the price of its predecessor (the Ryzen 7 7800X3D), which launched in April 2023 from €530. Naturally, the price details mentioned here should be taken with a grain of salt until the official launch of the CPU.
Wccftech claims it will be at least 20% more expensive in Europe, with the US MSRP being between $450 and $500. This obviously doesn’t take into account sales tax, which will vary depending on your state, but even assuming a price increase between generations (the 7800X3D cost $449 in the US at launch) it will certainly still be cheaper for Americans . Gamers outside the US who might have expected an affordable price might be left out in the cold about what could (according to previous leaks) be the new best gaming CPU on the market.
Is there any good news for gamers?
On the plus side, it appears the previous spec leak may hold some truth if these entries are accurate – PC21’s listing shows a maximum clock speed of 5.2GHz, confirming the existing leak. As we discussed when investigating previous leaks, AMD’s marketing for the 9800X3D could be led by ‘Next-Gen 3D V-Cache’ reportedly present in the new chip.
It all depends on how much impact this rumored Next-Gen 3D V-Cache could have on the 8-core CPU. The 7800X3D processor remains one of the best options for serious gamers and streamers, and while its successor could overtake it, that shouldn’t stop you from opting for the current AM5 CPU – although wait until Black Friday for now might be a wise move. .
It may also be worth noting that the unveiling of the RTX 5000 GPU series is on the horizon from Nvidia, so it’s entirely possible that gamers who plan to spend some money on upgrading their equipment , will want to buy the 9800X3D regardless of price because it will be the perfect complement to a new flagship graphics card!
