If one developer gets his way, it won’t be New York or California that has America’s tallest skyscraper, but Oklahoma City.
Matteson Capital has planned a complex called the Boardwalk in Bricktown in Oklahoma’s capital approved by the city council last August.
The structure would consist of four towers, including three residential units approximately 100 meters high, two hotels, apartments and more than 30,000 meters of commercial and community space.
Because the fourth tower was to be the showpiece, it was originally intended to be approximately 500 meters high; now developers are increasing that.
That tower would now extend to 2,000 feet, making it the tallest building in the United States.

Currently, the tallest building in the US is One World Trade Center, at 1,776 feet.
The number – 1,907 – refers to the year in which Oklahoma was admitted to the union as the 46th state.
The developers would need the city to rezone the property to achieve that goal, according to the Free press in Oklahoma City.
Matteson Capital plans to submit to that variance, which would make their building the sixth tallest in the world.
The world’s top five include the UAE’s Burj Khalifa (2,717 feet), Malaysia’s Merdeka 118 (2,227), China’s Shanghai Tower (2,073), Saudi Arabia’s Abraj Al-Bait Clock Tower (1,972) and Ping An International Finance Centre, also in China (1,966).
“Oklahoma City is undergoing a significant period of growth and transformation, making it well-positioned to support large-scale projects like those for Bricktown,” Scot Matteson, CEO of Matteson Capital, said in a statement.
‘We believe this development will be an iconic destination for the city, further driving the expansion and diversification of the growing economy and attracting investment, new businesses and jobs. It is a dynamic environment and we hope that The Boardwalk in Bricktown will become the pride of Oklahoma City.”
Oklahoma City is considered one of the fastest growing metro areas in the United States.

The exact location was previously known as just an L-shaped parking lot. The area includes the arena for the NBA’s Oklahoma City Thunder
The 2020 census put it at 680,000 inhabitants, making it the 20th most populous city in the country.
The Bricktown area has become a destination in the city, home to the arena of the NBA’s Oklahoma City Thunder and the stadium for minor league baseball’s Oklahoma City Dodgers.
Taxpayers recently voted to fund a new $900 million arena for the Thunder in the Bricktown area.
The press release suggested they want the area to make the city a “center for cultural and economic activity.”
