Amazon has revealed plans to close three UK warehouses, creating 1,200 jobs.

The company has entered into consultations regarding the closure of sites in Hemel Hempstead, Doncaster and Gourock in the west of Scotland.

All employees at the locations are offered jobs at other Amazon locations.

The online technology giant also announced plans for two massive warehouses in Peddimore in the West Midlands and Stockton-on-Tees in County Durham, which will create 2,500 jobs over the next three years.

An Amazon spokesperson said, “All employees impacted by site closure consultations will be given the opportunity to transfer to other facilities.”

GMB union organizer Steve Garelick said: “This is a real kick in the teeth for Amazon employees who worked themselves into the ground during the holiday rush.

Hard-up Amazon employees can’t suddenly be expected to band together and move to another fulfillment center that may be miles away.”
