The UEFA Champions League returned on Tuesday night for its 33rd edition since the 1992 reorganisation, and things were a little different.
For the first time, all participating teams played in one big competition, instead of in groups of four.
There was also a new broadcaster on the scene: Amazon Prime had acquired the rights to broadcast a blockbuster clash every Tuesday.
Amazon’s first choice was Liverpool’s away match against European giants AC Milan at the San Siro, while TNT Sports held the rights to broadcast the rest of this week’s Champions League matches live.
There were few complaints about the quality of Amazon’s coverage, which was hosted by Gabby Logan, while Frank Lampard, Daniel Sturridge and Clarence Seedorf were among the pundits. Milan legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic also made a guest appearance.

However, many fans took to social media to express their frustration at having to subscribe to yet another TV service to follow their team.
A fan tweeted: ‘PSA: I just found out Liverpool isn’t on TNT tonight, it’s on Amazon Prime.
‘It now takes two subscriptions to watch the entire Champions League. It’s furious, to be honest.’
Another groaned: ‘It’s a bit ridiculous how many football channels there are. I can’t watch Liverpool because they’re on Amazon Prime….’
A third fan added: ‘I’m going crazy trying to find the Liverpool Milan game on TNT, turns out it’s on Amazon Prime. Luckily I have Amazon but that’s complete woke nonsense!’
Amazon Prime costs £8.99 per month or £95 for an annual subscription.
Liverpool won the match 3-1 on Tuesday thanks to goals from Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk and Dominik Szoboszlai after Christian Pulisic’s early opener.

Amazon will also broadcast 20 live Premier League matches this season.
