An Amazon delivery driver from Florida has been accused of kidnapping a French bulldog worth thousands of dollars while making a delivery.

Reinier Revilla, 34, allegedly stole a $4,000 dog named Kali from a home on Copper Hill Drive in Spring Hill on December 23, 2023. He has been charged with grand larceny.

According to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office, Kali’s unknown owner left the bulldog in her fenced backyard at 9:15 a.m. on the day of the kidnapping.

But she soon realized that her one-year-old dog had escaped from the backyard.

After the owner began frantically searching for her pet, a neighbor told her that they had seen Kali approaching a Hispanic man in his 20s, wearing an Amazon uniform and driving an old white Chevrolet Cruze.

A neighbor told the owner that they saw Kali approach a Hispanic man in his 20s, wearing an Amazon uniform and driving an old white Chevrolet Cruze.

Another neighbor, who also witnessed the incident, said the thief then stopped his car on Larkenheath Drive, picked up the dog and placed it in his back seat before driving away again.

After being notified of the kidnapping, Kali’s owner quickly contacted Amazon customer service and was advised to contact the police.

On January 16, detectives identified Revilla as a suspect and interviewed him.

According to Fox news, the sheriff’s office said Revilla admitted in an interview to taking the dog and that she was still in his possession.

Detective Benjamin Witherell told the story Fox13 that the suspect claimed he briefly tried to find the owner before giving up the dog and taking it with him.

Kali was rescued from a nearby home and returned to her owner later the same day. Officials obtained an arrest warrant for Revilla on January 17.

Revilla turned himself in at the Hillsborough County Jail on Jan. 19 after being notified of his arrest warrant.

He was later released after posting $5,000 bail.

After Kali was found, Witherell said, “Kali is worth about $4,000. This is a grand theft investigation. She is a purebred French bulldog. That is an expensive breed.

‘Honestly it was a highlight of my career. It’s a really good ending to a story that could be so sad.”

Amazon also released a statement saying, “We have remained in contact with the customer throughout this process and are grateful for the work of the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office and Kali’s return home.

“The person responsible no longer delivers packages for Amazon.”

The investigation is still ongoing.
