Amazon customers are rushing to buy a tiny two-bedroom house that costs less than a used Ford Focus
A tiny house has appeared for sale on Amazon for less than a standard car.
The two-bedroom mobile home – with an open plan living room and kitchen and a bathroom with toilet and shower – costs $19,000.
The prefabricated house, largely made of metal, is framed by a cozy enclosed veranda with stairs to the front door.
It is also equipped with plumbing and electricity, as well as a boiler.
The $19,000 house has two bedrooms, a bathroom, a living room and a porch
The house, made by Emonia, comes with wind protection, fire protection, earthquake resistance, sun protection, and rain and moisture resistance, according to the Amazon listing.
The tiny house, which costs less than a new Mitsubishi Mirage, could be a tempting option as house prices continue to reach record highs.
According to the Federal Reserve, about 64 percent of American adults own their own home.
This figure drops to 36 percent for those earning $50,000 a year or less.
Current 30-year fixed mortgage rates are about 5.8 percent, which can also pose barriers to purchasing a more traditional home.
However, mortgage rates have been declining and have fallen to their lowest level since February 2023, significantly reducing monthly payments for homeowners.
A monthly mortgage payment is cheaper than rent in 22 of the 50 largest metros, according to a new analysis from Zillow.
New Orleans and Chicago offer the best deal for homebuyers – with monthly savings of more than $400 on the typical mortgage payment compared to rent.

“This analysis shows that homeownership may be more within reach than most renters think,” said Orphe Divounguy, senior economist at Zillow.
According to Zillow, New Orleans homeowners can save nearly $450 a month by paying a mortgage instead of renting.
In Chicago, renting an apartment for $2,074 per month is the norm, but the monthly mortgage payment is $1,640.
This amounts to a savings of $434 per month for homeowners.
