She explained that she had been unable to open the front door due to the package’s poor position – adding that she desperately ‘tried to wave a neighbour down’.

In the clip, which has now been viewed more than 592,000 times, Holly explains the situation as she talks directly into the camera.

She suppressed nervous laughter and began, “I got a package from Amazon. It’s supposed to be a cardboard cutout of a Star Wars character, that doesn’t matter.”

She then turned the camera to show the large package on the doorstep, wedged between the outward-opening front door and the metal railing behind it, leaving her with no way out of the house.

‘Why? We can’t open our door. Oh god, we’re stuck. Oh no,” the content creator said.

She captioned the clip: “Amazon, we’re still stuck. It’s been three hours… trying to wave down a neighbor.”

And Holly’s video was quickly flooded with comments from other social media users, with one person writing: ‘Legend has it they are still trapped…’

Another commented: ‘The thought of not being able to open the door makes me sick!’

And a third added: ‘This happened to me a few years ago! Call your local police station, not 911, and explain what happened. They will send someone to help! They will laugh at you but they WILL help.’

After the widespread outrage, Holly uploaded a follow-up clip providing more context.

“It’s been a few days. We’re not still stuck,” she began, before showing viewers that she could now open the door in question.

Holly then answered questions from other social media users.

“As for the back door, first of all, we live in a house and not an apartment.

“We have a back door and a back patio. We just live in a very narrow house because we live in a city.”

She showed viewers her garden before pointing out that it is surrounded by neighbors on all sides – which is why she couldn’t easily escape that way.

Holly pointed to a gate to her right and added, “That leads to a parking lot right next to our house.

“You know, if we climbed this fence and jumped down, we’d probably hurt ourselves, so we weren’t going to do that…

‘We weren’t going to injure ourselves just by getting a package on the street, because we knew our friend had dropped someone off at the train station in our town.

‘We asked them to come and look at our WiFi anyway, so we knew they were coming.’

She continued, “We probably waited three or four hours before he came to relieve us.

‘As for everyone telling us to “take the glass off our door” – it’s Sunday, too much work, especially when we know a friend is coming.

‘Everyone says, “Break a window.” Would you break a window in your own home to get to a package? No.

‘Besides, we live in a big city, so I don’t know how long the local police are busy [would take]. It would probably have taken the local police just as long as it took our friend to release us.’

Holly concluded: ‘So, everyone who was really worried about us – thank you. I love you. You are wonderful people.

“Anyone who made fun of us for being, I don’t know, a little bit lazy – whatever.

“But I’m just glad this is a universal experience, because that was crazy.”
