Amazon Australia launches recruitment campaign to hire seasonal workers ahead of mid-year sales

Amazon Australia has launched a recruitment drive to hire 1,400 seasonal workers ahead of the mid-year sale. Experience is not required.

The multinational tech giant on Monday launched a massive campaign to boost its workforce ahead of the fiscal year-end sales period in June and the Prime Day shopping event in July.

Hundreds of employees will be hired to work at Amazon fulfillment centers and logistics locations across Australia to pick, pack and ship orders from the warehouses to customers.

Amazon Australia launched the recruitment drive to meet customer demand with the busy sales season just weeks away.

“We have 1,400 vacancies to fill with motivated and enthusiastic people looking for a short-term role,” said Amazon Australia Director of Human Relations Operations Jacqui Marker.

‘We provide on-the-job training, so no prior experience or formal qualification is required.’

Half of the 1,400 employees will be based in warehouses in NSW.

Amazon is hiring 300 workers in Victoria, while Queensland and WA need 200 and 130 workers respectively.

The remaining 70 employees will work at centers in South Australia and Tasmania.

Flexible work arrangements are also offered through Amazon Flex.

Permanent full-time positions at Amazon are also up for grabs. Benefits include life, income and health insurance

Samparpan Kapoor, who became a full-time employee after first starting as a seasonal worker, said the job is rewarding.

“I learn something new every day at work,” he said.

“We will receive additional training and educational support to help us develop and grow.”

Applications for seasonal jobs are now open.

The latest jobs campaign comes after Amazon Australia announced last year it would build the country’s largest fulfillment center at a site in Craigieburn, in Melbourne’s north.

Set to open in 2025, the facility will be the size of 11 MCGs and will be operated by a fleet of robots.

The four-story building will be built on a massive 209,000 square feet of land and will cost $8.4 billion to build.

Amazon has been restructuring the company in recent years, leading to layoffs that have affected workers around the world.

The company announced earlier this year that hundreds of employees from several companies, including PrimeVideo and Twitch, would be laid off to reduce costs.
