Amazfit is back with a pair of new affordable fitness smartwatches: the Amazfit Active and the Active Edge.
If you look at the first model, you will notice that it bears a resemblance to the Apple Watch due to its rectangular 1.75-inch screen. According to the company, it even offers performance comparable to the Apple Watch Series 9, as the AMOLED display has a resolution of 390 x 450 pixels. This distinction is important to make as AMOLED technology is more energy efficient than standard OLED screens. Looking at the specifications of Amazfit Active, the wearable can last 14 hours with “normal use”. But if you activate Battery Saver Mode, you can double the battery life for up to 30 days.
If you prefer a more flashy smartwatch, check out the other option. The Amazfit Active Edge has a robust, rounder design to withstand impacts. It even has a water resistance of 10 ATM (atmospheres), which means that if the specs hold up, you can dive up to 100 meters underwater with this device on and it will still work. In comparison, the Active model can only last up to 50 meters underwater. Keep in mind that the company recommends not showering with it on as the steam can loosen the tight seal.
The Active Edge performs slightly worse. The 1.32-inch display has a maximum resolution of 360 x 360 pixels. The watch’s battery, Amazfit claims, can last up to 16 days. However, it apparently peaks at 24 days when battery saver mode is enabled. So there is some interaction.
Software features
The real heart and soul of these fitness machines is in the software functions.
Both wearables allow users to create “personalized training plans via Zepp Coach.” The app integrates more than 120 exercises, from running to more engaging workouts like martial arts (think martial arts; nothing gladiators). In addition, you can monitor key body functions 24/7, including your heart rate and the oxygen level in your blood. If you ever get lost, the watches are supported by “five satellite systems that enable reliable GPS tracking.”
There are some important differences between the two. Most notably, the Amazfit Active houses the company’s own “Readiness feature,” which, according to the announcement post, “provides a score based on” certain parameters. Using the internal sensors, the smartwatch can measure your body temperature, breathing quality and your sleeping heart rate.
Added together, the score indicates how much your body has recovered after a night’s sleep. For example, if you feel more tired than normal, the screen will indicate that your mental recovery is low.
Availability
Both wearables are available for purchase on the company’s official website. Prices for the Amazfit Active start at $150, with you being able to choose between Midnight Black, Petal Pink and Lavender Purple as your main color. With the Active Edge, prices start at $140. The three color options are Mint Green, Midnight Pulse, and Lava Black. The latter is especially striking because the face looks very fiery.
If you purchase one, you’ll get a free trial at Zepp Fitness where you can try out the new AI chatbot and ask for workout tips or nutritional advice. It’s unknown if there are plans for an international launch, although we did ask. This story will be updated at a later date.
