‘He does it to compete with Bruno! Bruno has his pecs, but he does his push-ups in the privacy of his own home. But I managed to film Simon doing it. I was like, “I’m not missing that. I’m putting that all over social media.”

‘He embraces his sporting side in this series. He shows up in sweatpants and a compression top. But the compression top shows its best features. I think he’s pretty proud of his pecs and his guns. Simon has the brawn factor.”

Simon confirmed that if he has a few spare minutes during filming, he will make sure he hits a few reps to improve his physique.

It comes after 68-year-old Bruno admitted that the pressure to look good on television is just as great for men as it is for women.

The Italian dancer, who previously appeared in Strictly, also believes that social media has made it even more difficult for male stars.

He said: ‘I think it’s just as bad for men as it is for women because of all this Instagram stuff, you know what I mean? Especially for young men – it’s actually just as bad as for women.’

Bruno has vowed to stay in shape with a strict training regime to ensure he enjoys a long career.

β€œI’m still alive, it’s fantastic, it’s never been better,” he said. ‘It’s just accepting what is.

‘I won’t let myself go. Of course I do my exercises, I take care of myself as best I can. But obviously I’m not 20, it’s good to stay fit and it’s good to stay fit.

‘You have to find, embrace and make the best of what you have at that moment. Look at Clint Eastwood, look at Kevin Costner, he’s my age.

‘Look at Brad Pitt, he gets better with age. It’s about how you feel. In your mind you are still 27, you can keep the spirit alive.

‘But growing older is a privilege. It means that you have had a long life and should cherish it.’
