Manchester United’s Amad Diallo has removed a like he left on a Sunderland fan post on X (formerly Twitter) telling him to return to his old club due to his lack of opportunities at Old Trafford.

The Ivorian has recently returned to full fitness after a long-term injury and is keen to get his United career back on track after a stop-start several years after his arrival.

Big things were expected of Diallo’s potential when he landed in Manchester following a £37 million move from Serie A three years ago during Ole Solskjaer’s management.

During a season-long loan spell at Sunderland in the Championship last season, Amad, 21, starred for the Black Cats with 14 goals and 42 appearances in all competitions as he helped the club reach the play-offs.

However, he has made just one appearance for United this season and was left out of the squad for Sunday’s FA Cup fourth round victory over League Two Newport.

The likes on Amad’s official Twitter account appear not to have appreciated his interaction with the post since.

However, a video post of his Sunderland highlights from May last year has been pinned to the top of his Twitter profile.

Fellow United youngster Alejandro Garnacho and Brazilian winger Antony started for Amad, who only had time on the ball during warm-ups during the weekend clash.

Marcus Rashford also failed to appear as he was left out of United’s squad for the cup tie due to illness, but amid reports he was spotted at a nightclub in Belfast on Thursday evening.

United successfully battled their way through the tricky fixture against Newport as late goals from Antony and striker Rasmus Hojlund extended their side’s stay in the competition.

They will visit either Nottingham Forest or Bristol City in the fifth round in a bid to reach a second successive FA Cup final.
