Alysha Koloi: Aussie Paris Olympics star hit with vile abuse on social media after posting an innocent photo online

Australian Olympic diver Alysha Koloi has been bombarded with horribly sexist comments after posting a simple photo of herself while competing at the Paris Olympics.

The 22-year-old competed in the three-metre plank event in France and reached the semi-finals after finishing 16th in the preliminary rounds.

On Thursday, she posted a photo of herself looking over her shoulder with her back to the camera while competing in a competition in Canada, accompanied by the caption “next step,” which led to a long string of sick sexist comments.

Comments like: ‘Next step: make a choice’ [OnlyFans account]’, ‘I’d rather swim with you’ and ‘wipe me off’ were among the milder responses to the post.

Other commentators sarcastically ignored Koloi’s athletic prowess – including gold at the World Aquatics Championships in February – and focused solely on her appearance.

“I’m actually a big fan of the sport you play,” someone wrote.

‘Always loved this sport. What is it anyway?’ added another.

“What sport do you compete in? I’ll be following with great interest,” wrote a third commenter.

Daily Mail Australia has chosen not to publish some other responses to the story.

Koloi’s 16th place in Paris would have been much higher if she had not made a small mistake on her fourth dive.

“I’m actually quite proud of the way I fought,” she said News Corp after her performance in the preliminary rounds.

‘I made one small mistake, but I’m absolutely not disappointed with my consistency.

‘I’m proud of how I held my own and very happy to have made it to the semi-finals.’

If the 22-year-old can match her form from this year’s World Championships in Qatar, she could win a medal in Paris.

She won the title on the 1-meter springboard after taking the lead with her fourth of five jumps. However, the Chinese team did not participate in the competition to concentrate on the Games in France.

Koloi, from Brisbane, finished fifth in the 3m synchronised springboard at the 2023 World Aquatics Diving World Cup and is a former gymnast.
