When Ally McCoist sat down to enjoy the Formula One action over the weekend, she was unaware that the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix she assumed to be live had already happened.

A week after Sergio Perez prevailed in Jeddah, McCoist thought he was watching the Red Bull star emerge victorious, only to discover on Monday morning that it was actually a repeat.

In a funny moment in talkSPORT breakfast showthe Rangers legend asked host Laura Woods which F1 expert they would speak to after what he thought was the weekend’s race.

“It’s becoming a non-Grand Prix event, isn’t it,” he said.

McCoist then appeared to have been told by someone off camera that there was no F1 Grand Prix over the weekend, to which he replied: “It was Saudi Arabia over the weekend.” Was he watching a replay?

But TalkSPORT host Laura Woods broke the news that no race took place.

Ally McCoist (L) found out live on talkSPORT that she inadvertently watched an F1 replay over the weekend, leaving presenter Laura Woods (R) with stitches.

Before bursting out laughing, Woods told the baffled expert that the Saudi masterpiece actually took place the previous weekend.

‘Was that? Was he watching a replay? McCoist asked.

Yes, I swear to God I was! I thought to myself, “This is great, Perez has won two in a row!”

“In my defense, I didn’t watch it all, I watched about 25 minutes because I thought to myself ‘this is boring, it’s going to be another one-two.’ [with Perez and Red Bull team-mate Max Verstappen finishing first and second].”‘

And to top off McCoist’s nightmarish morning, Woods also shared images on Instagram of his talkSPORT colleague drenched in coffee after spilling his latte in his lap. A true Monday to forget.

Fans were left in stitches over his F1 blunder over the weekend, with one tweeting: ‘I love Ally, she makes me laugh’.
