AllSaints founder calls Shein’s planned £50 billion IPO in London ‘ridiculous’.
Stuart Trevor, who founded the leather jacket maker in 1994, is the latest in the British fashion world to criticise the plans of the controversial Chinese giant.
In a tirade shared on social media, the fashion designer called the retailer “scammers” who were “making as much noise as possible.”
Stitch up: AllSaints is the latest British fashion company to criticize plans by controversial Chinese giant Shein
Trevor said Shein was ‘desperately trying to pretend they had some sort of respectable business practice in the hope that the UK government would be stupid enough to allow them to go ahead with their listing’.
A listing is “absolutely ridiculous and cannot be allowed,” he added.
Trevor was responding to reports that Shein has accused its Chinese rival Temu of running a “fraud marketplace.”
Along with his co-founder Kait Bolongaro, Trevor sold his shares in AllSaints in 2006.
The brand now has 68 stockists in the UK, including department stores.
Trevor, who now runs his own label, is a household name in the fashion industry.
He is the former head of menswear design at Kate Middleton’s favourite fashion brand Reiss and founder of fashion label Bolongaro Trevor.
The government is believed to be in favour of an IPO for Shein, saying it would revive London’s troubled markets.
Shein is said to have filed documents with the Financial Conduct Authority, the first step toward a stock market listing.
The market debut would be one of the biggest ever for the city. Shein declined to comment on Trevor’s remarks.
