Shocking CCTV footage captured the moment a man was attacked during an alleged attempted carjacking.

The 47-year-old man was allegedly attacked by several men at a gas station in St. Albans, Melbourne’s northwest, at 11:15 p.m. on April 26.

He had filled up his car, paid for the gas at the counter, and was walking back to his car when he was attacked.

CCTV footage shows the man being beaten several times before he manages to break free and run away.

CCTV footage from a gas station in Melbourne’s north west St Albans (pictured) has shown the moment a man was allegedly attacked by three men during an attempted carjacking

He was reportedly dragged to the ground, beaten and kicked in the head numerous times before the group of men fled.

The 47-year-old was later taken to hospital to be treated for facial injuries and a broken nose.

One man has been charged while police have released footage of two others they believe may help them in their investigation.

Police claim the driver was attacked by only one of the men as he opened his door before two more entered.

“It was just a violent act, it was a cowardly act without provocation,” Senior Constable William Daddow told Nine.

“It has no place in our community or our society.”

After the incident, the three men fled.

“It’s obviously a very traumatic experience,” Snr Const. Daddow said.

“Any incident where someone has been attacked in such a violent way leaves a mark on someone.”

The CCTV footage shows a red sedan driving away from a gas station just meters from the incident as it unfolded.

Police have charged a 24-year-old St. Albans man with aggravated attempted carjacking, assault, robbery, intentional harm, assault in companionship, committing a criminal offense while out on bail.

He was sent back to appear before the Magistrate.
