Coleen Rooney caused a social media frenzy when she graced the cover of British Vogues digital September issue, ending her years of silence over her £3 million libel case with Rebekah Vardy.
The WAG, 37, channeled her Scouse roots with a breathtaking shoot in her native Liverpool, with the publication brazenly branding her ‘wife, mother, detective, superstar’ on their front page.
Following the cover’s release, Rebekah hit back by labeling her rival “boring” and “publicity-seeking,” as she argued with fans in a series of comments on a bikini-clad Instagram post.
Coleen’s shoot, which has since gone viral with fans declaring that “Their culture has peaked,” is full of secret references, with every detail of the cover scrutinized by followers of the Wagatha Christie scandal.
So while Rebekah shares her anger at Coleen’s interview, MailOnline takes a closer look at the secret meaning of her stunning cover…

THAT Dior jacket
Coleen caused a social media storm in 2019 when she accused Rebekah Vardy’s Instagram account of leaking stories about her to The Sun.
She shared that she secretly devised a plot to thwart the person who leaked stories by posting fake stories on her private account and making them visible only to Rebekah’s account.
And Vogue leaned heavily on Coleen’s sleuthing skills by donning her a classic detective trench coat, though her look was much more chic thanks to a Dior piece.
One user also suspected that iconic Instagram account Loveofhuns was responsible, tagging them in a comment that read “@loveofhuns Have you infiltrated Vogue?”
Her nickname ‘detective’
Legendary: Given her new investigative status, Vogue was quick to lean into the online excitement and label Coleen a “wife, mother, detective, superstar”
Given her new investigative status, Vogue quickly capitalized on the online excitement and labeled Coleen as “wife, mother, detective, superstar” on the magazine’s cover.
Coleen’s followers were quick to praise the cheeky reference, with one even joking that she should be featured in the seventh series of Line Of Duty.
One tweeted: ”Wife, mother, detective, superstar”I scream!’ while another added: ‘Their culture has peaked with this Coleen Rooney British Vogue cover. 10/10 no notes.’
A third posted: ‘Can’t believe Coleen Rooney is on the cover of British Vogue’s SEPTEMBER ISSUE, I’m gagged ‘detective’.
“Coleen Rooney on the cover of British Vogue being described as a ‘detective’ and styled as Inspector Gadget feels absolutely right to me,” one fan wrote.
The Royal Liver Building
Together: Coleen (pictured with her kids in Liverpool) showed off her Scouse roots in the Vogue shoot
With the River Mersey visible behind her, Coleen’s Liverpool roots were on full display as she posed in front of the iconic Royal Liver Building for the cover of Vogue.
The historic site is a landmark in the city and is one of three graces that sit side by side on the waterfront.
The building was occupied by the Royal Liver Assurance Group from 1911 to 2011 and remains a huge tourist attraction.
Given Coleen and her husband Wayne’s connection to Liverpool, the cover perfectly recreates their husband’s roots.
Coleen shared footage from the shoot on Instagram, sharing her pride at being able to pose for the shoot in Liverpool, writing: ‘most amazing day… in my home city’.
Deliver birds
Vogue completed Coleen’s idyllic cover by surrounding her with the mythical liverbirds, which have been an emblem of the northern city for over 800 years.
As well as adorning the coat of arms of beloved Liverpool FC and the city’s coat of arms, the birds stem from a popular legend that they could be seen around the skyline of the River Mersey, where the Liver Building was erected.
Local legend also says that the birds look away from each other, because if they mated and flew away, the city would cease to exist.
Hours after Coleen’s cover was released, Rebekah made some digs in the comments section of an Instagram post, accusing her rival of seeking “publicity” with her bombshell Vogue interview while feuding with fans in a series of comments .
Coleen broke her silence on their £3 million libel case in the interview, labeling Rebekah as ‘strange’ after maintaining a dignified silence on the lawsuit.
And in the comments section of her post, Rebekah didn’t shy away from attacking Coleen for her Vogue interview, dismissing her comments as “boring.”
Her irate words came in response to a fan who commented, “I think Vogue Mag is a superstar at all of that,” referring to Coleen’s interview.
Rebekah then replied, “Boring now, isn’t it,” and the fan added, “Desparate.”
Jamie Vardy’s wife remained furious when she slapped Coleen, writing, “Don’t give me publicity, I’m private, but please give me publicity.”
Doubling down, she continued, “Which I don’t understand why you would want to keep bringing it up. It’s boring now! The public doesn’t care and neither do I. She won, that’s the end! Be happy, move on… cause I know I got x’
Drama: Following the cover’s release, Rebekah hit back by labeling her rival as “boring” and “publicity-seeking” as she argued with fans in a series of comments
Another fan lashed out at Rebekah when they said, “You dragged her through court to hang yourself so she has the right to tell her side.” You made the mistakes here, not them!’
Provoking her to protest her innocence as she argued back, “What a year later! Give me a break! And yes I did because I am not doing anything wrong! And I’ll take that to my grave! If I had, believe me, I would have tapped my middle finger and said yes and what!’
The Instagram user then replied, “However, you’ve been found guilty by the best suits and you can’t really preach innocence now can you? I know you’d rather it go away, but she still has a right to tell her side and her experience of this ordeal and people will listen.’
But Rebekah continued, “I’ve been preaching innocence from day one and that won’t change! And are you going to tell me they’re not doing it wrong… because I have a really long list that they messed up! But it doesn’t fit the story! It’s fine, I’m fine with being the bad guy! Maybe I’ll start playing against that now.’
She also alluded to the drama in her caption when she wrote, “have a rest (peace out emoji).”
Rebekah lost her libel case against Coleen in July 2022, was ordered to pay up to £1.5million towards Coleen’s legal costs after she lost the case, but continues to insist she was not at fault.
Despite the viral frenzy surrounding Coleen’s cover, fashionistas are less enthralled and fainting at decisions made by outgoing British Vogue editor-in-chief Edward Enninful.
“Everyone is amazed,” a source told the Daily Mail. Miriam Margolyes was the cover in June, Maya Jama of Love Island in August – and now Wayne Rooney’s wife!
“People joke that he does it on purpose, as revenge against Anna (Wintour, Vogue’s head honcho). What’s next? Holly Willoughby and Rylan Clark?’
