All signs point to Meryl Streep and Don Gummer breaking up after bombshell they’ve been separated for six years

Meryl Streep and Don Gummer have revealed they have been separated for “more than six years” after 45 years of marriage.

The couple, who married in 1978 and share four children, said they had “chosen to live separately”, according to a statement given Page Six.

Despite being secretly separated for six years, the news only came out now, but there were signs pointing to their split.

It was believed that the couple lseen together while attending in 2018 Oscars ceremony, and since then they have not made any public appearances together.

Here, MailOnline looks at all the signs that suggest Meryl and Don have gone their separate ways.

NO PUBLIC PERFORMANCES

The couple hasn’t been shy about appearing on the red carpet together during their 45-year marriage.

The Devil Wears Prada actress, 74, and the sculptor, 76, have often been seen hugging and posing together at star-studded events.

In 2012, Don was seen showing his support for Meryl by kissing her when she won the Academy Award for Best Actress for The Iron Lady.

However, in recent years the couple has not been spotted walking red carpets together, with Meryl often appearing solo.

Meryl and Don are believed to have been last seen together while attending the 2018 Academy Awards.

In the evening, Meryl looked stunning in a red dress and was seen posing on the red carpet with her arm wrapped around Don, who looked suave in a black suit.

But now, Meryl often appears solo or with her co-stars on red carpets and premieres as she promotes her new movies, including Don’t Look Up and The Prom.

On Friday, she attended the Princesa de Asturias Awards, where she received one of the country’s highest artistic honors.

She spoke to Queen Letizia, King Felipe VI and their two daughters as shis 46 years of work in film were marked.

However, Don was absent from the ceremony as Meryl posed for photos solo, or alongside the Spanish royal family.

CHANGES OF APARTMENTS

Meryl and Don lived and raised their four children – Henry, 43, Mamie, 40, Grace, 37, and Louisa Jacobson, 30 – at their home in Connecticut.

In addition to their main residence, the couple also owned a loft in the Tribeca neighborhood of New York.

However, the couple sold the lavish four-bedroom property in 2020 for $15.8 million, according to Page Six.

The penthouse was first listed in August 2018 for a whopping $24.6 million, but the price was dropped to $18.25 million the following year, ahead of a 2020 sale.

Meryl bought the 3,944-square-foot abode, located in the River Lofts building in TriBeCa, for $10.13 million back in 2006.

Elsewhere, in July 2020, Meryl separately purchased a home in Pasadena, California for $4 million.

But it wasn’t the first property she bought in Pasadena as Meryl and Don also purchased a $3.6 million home in late 2017.

WE TALK LESS ABOUT EACH OTHER

While Meryl and Don have kept their relationship relatively private, the Hollywood actress has talked about her marriage in interviews for years.

She also sweetly thanked Don in her acceptance speech when she took home the prestigious accolades.

However, Meryl hasn’t talked about Don as much in recent years, compared to the previous outbreak of their marriage in a series of interviews.

In 2012, she paid tribute to Don in her acceptance speech at the Academy Awards while accepting the Best Actress gong for The Iron Lady.

She said: “I’m going to thank Don first, because when you thank your husband at the end of the speech, they play it with music, and I want him to know that everything that I value most in our lives you have given me.”

The “Death Becomes Her” star also gushed about her “awesome” husband when she talked about their marriage in a 2011 interview with The Talks.

When asked how she balances marriage and career, she said: “Well, the first thing is a great husband. I found that many years ago and I’m lucky that way.’

Meryl also talked about the secret to a long-lasting marriage in a 2002 Vogue interview. she said: ‘A good will and a willingness to bend down — and shut up now and then.’

She continued: “There’s no road map to raising a family: it’s always a big negotiation. But I have a holistic need to work and have huge relationships of love in my life.’
