All schools in Colorado’s Lake County closed after on-the-run teen posted online threats

All schools in Lake County, Colorado are closed through Sunday due to online threats from a fugitive suspect.

Dominic Gallegos, 18, is also wanted in connection with a crime involving threats.

The Lake County School District said it decided to close schools based on advice from the local sheriff.

“We have decided to cancel school today, Wednesday, to ensure the safety of students and staff, given the ongoing safety concerns at the school that have persisted since noon and into the evening and early morning,” the Lake County School District said in a statement.

“We will work closely with law enforcement to determine what next steps they take as their investigation progresses.

‘We will work with Amy Peters (director of athletics/activities) to see how we will approach the away games in the coming days. We will contact the coaches and athletes directly.’

The measure applies to the four schools in the region: Lake County Elementary, Lake County Intermediate School, Lake County High and Cloud City High.

On Monday, several other schools in Colorado canceled classes or increased police patrols following social media threats against schools in the state and elsewhere in Texas.
