Teacher at Catholic high school is accused of having sex with a teenage student NINE times

A Catholic high school teacher has been accused of having sex with one of his teenage students nine times.

The teacher from All Saints’ College in Maitland, in the Hunter region of New South Wales, was arrested at Maitland police station last week.

He was charged with nine counts of sexual intercourse with a person under his custody and granted conditional bail.

He will appear in Maitland Local Court at the end of this month.

The accused man is one of two teachers at the school accused of ‘serious misconduct’.

Both were placed on administrative leave last month.

The Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle released a statement on March 15 claiming that the college’s leadership had been informed on March 13 of one allegation of misconduct, the Daily telegram reports.

It said the incident was reported “to the relevant legal authority the same day” and immediate steps were taken to place the teacher on administrative leave.

‘A related but very separate accusation of a different nature against another staff member’ was submitted to the management of the council on March 14.

The alleged incident was again reported to authorities and the school took steps to place the staff member on administrative leave.

“Due to the nature of the ongoing investigations, the Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle is unable to provide any further comment at this time,” the statement said.

‘The Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle responds to all allegations of abuse and takes safeguarding seriously and puts the protection of children and vulnerable people first.

‘As is always the case with our diocesan system of schools, we encourage you to contact the leadership at All Saints’ College or the Office of Safeguarding if you have any concerns.’
